Q: How long should my battery last?
A: When new and fully charged, the battery should give you between 8 and 12 hours of life, depending on your model.
NOTE: Apple states that the following models should have a least the following playback times:
* iPod (including dock connector), iPod mini = 8 hours
* iPod (Click Wheel, shuffle) = 12 hours
* iPod photo = 15 hours
* iPod mini (second generation) = 18 hours
* iPod nano = 14 hours
* New iPod = 20 hours
Apple also says it’s normal for an iPod’s battery to only hold 80% of its original charge after frequent use.
Q: How long does it take to fully charge the battery?
A: Fully charging a battery takes about four (4) hours. Most batteries will charge to 80% in only one (1) hour.
Q: Why doesn’t my iPOD battery last as long as it’s supposed to?
A: Remember, anytime that you use additional features or use the backlight, it will drain an extra amount of the battery life. To get the most out of your iPod battery.
Q: Do I need to completely empty the battery before charging it and does doing this prevent the so-called memory effect?
A: You don’t need to empty the battery before charging it. Lithium-based batteries, like those used in iPods, have none of the memory effects seen in nickel-based rechargeable batteries.
Q: How long can an iPod’s battery keep a charge without being used?
A: The standby time is 1 month when fully charged. After a month of not being used, the battery will likely be out of power. You may find that the battery is empty even before then, and that’s normal. Even when it’s not being used, an iPod uses a small amount of battery power.
Q: Why does my iPod stop playing even though the battery indicator says there is still some power left?
A: The battery indicator is only an approximation of the amount of power that is left — it’s not an exact science, per say. If this happens, it’s best to fully charge your battery.
Q: Does the battery ever wear out?
A: Rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced. Battery life and number of charge cycles vary by use and settings. Just bring your iPod into any Geek Squad location to have your battery checked or replaced. Agents are standing by to help.
Q: Do I lose any information if my iPod’s battery fully discharges?
A: Some customized settings may be lost like the date and time. Other settings are saved on the hard drive (i.e. backlight time) and will not need to be reset if you fully discharge the battery.
